My Top 5 Low-calorie Recipes

Introduction

Whether we like it or not, watching your calories is an important part of weight loss and health management. Consuming too many calories can lead to weight gain, which could lead to further health complications.

Thankfully, something doesn’t have to be high-calorie to be delicious. In this post, I’m highlighting my five favorite calorie-conscious recipes I’ve shared in the past.

While these recipes are all lower on the calorie spectrum, I didn’t want to just share the lowest-calorie recipes I’ve shared. If I did, I would just be sharing plain vegetables, which just isn’t very interesting.

Instead, I opted for a mix of lower-calorie while still keeping some variety. While some have more calories, rest assured that they’re all relatively light – and pretty healthy overall.

This interesting sandwich is made up of mostly cabbage and egg, with healthy drizzles of mustard and ketchup. While that may not sounds appealing up-front, this didn’t become so popular for nothing – it’s actually quite tasty.

Best of all, it can be made quite low-calorie if you don’t use the usual amount of butter. The most calorie-packed thing is likely the bread, which can be lessened by purchasing a low-calorie version.

However, even with normal bread the calorie count is quite meager. When I first discovered this, I was surprised to see how few calories my version contained. Whenever I have the ingredients, I often find myself making two sandwiches and still not feeling bad about the calories.

This twist on the classic cheeseburger has all the flavor with fewer calories. While the ground beef is notably calorific, you don’t need much to make this a great salad.

The main bulk of the salad is lettuce, which is obviously low-calorie, as are the pickles and “dressing” (ketchup and mustard). While the original recipe has the standard burger motif, you’re free to shake things up. A blue cheese burger salad with a light blue cheese dressing, maybe?

Either way, this is still a salad, so you know the calories won’t be too high – as long as you don’t outpace the greens with cheese and dressing 😉

These skewers contain both lean protein and a large concentration of vegetables. They also have a fairly low-calorie sauce, making them an even greater choice for this list. However, the sauce is pretty optional if you really want to cut back on the calories.

While it won’t change the calories much, you can use different vegetables if you’d like. Broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower would all be great choices for these skewers. Speaking of cauliflower…

These iconic edibles feature chunks of cauliflower roasted in an oven, then covered in a tangy buffalo sauce. While the sauce is a bit high on calories, the amount of cauliflower more than makes up for it.

To reduce the calories even further, you can replace the butter with something lower in calories, like margarine.

This colorful trio really speak for themselves. While the dressing features olive oil – a high calorie ingredient – the modest calorie count of beans keeps things in check.

A great way of reducing calories here would be to use your favorite low-cal dressing instead of the suggested one. The flavor won’t be quite the same, but it will be lower calorie, and probably no less delicious.
