How to Make Sandwich Sauce for Burgers and Sandwiches

All About Sandwich Sauce

Introduction

There are many different types of sauces you can put on a sandwich. From simple ketchup and mustard to elaborate secret sauces, there are near endless possibilities.

In this post, I’m sharing a simple but delicious sauce that you can use on burgers, sandwiches, and much, much more.

What is Sandwich Sauce?

In this case, it is a seasoned mayo-based sauce. By adding the right ingredients to mayo, you make something that’s more interesting, more tasty, and more versatile.

Why Did I Make It?

Too many times have I added the trio of ketchup, mustard and mayo to a sandwich. After yearning for something different, I decided to make this.

I also have a fascination with “secret sauces,” which I consider this to be a first attempt at.

What Do I Need to Make It?

For this recipe, you’ll need mayo, soy sauce, sugar, hot sauce and salt.

While I like this combination of ingredients, this is really a template; feel free to attempt your own as well.

What do I Eat It on/with?

It’s unsurprisingly good on sandwiches and burgers. However, you can also use it for dipping fries (or vegetables, if you like the taste of irony).

It also makes a pretty incredible grilled cheese; just fry both sides in the sauce instead of butter/oil. These are just a start, but I hope I’ve piqued your interest for this easy, fast, and tasty sauce.

Conclusion and Recipe

Below I’ve listed the ingredients and the exact amounts you need to get started. Again, the recipe will give you something great, but I encourage you to also try making a more personalized version.

If you think this sauce would be great on a burger, consider serving it on some homemade hamburger buns.

Ingredients

1/2 cup mayo, 116 grams

1 tsp sugar, 5 grams

1/2 tsp hot sauce*, 2.5 grams

1/2 tsp soy sauce, 2.5 grams

Kosher salt, as needed**

Makes about 1/2 cup of sauce

Preparation

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.

Serve on burgers, sandwiches, salads, and so much more.

Notes

* If your hot sauce is especially hot, you may want to use a bit less. Since this is supposed to be versatile, you don’t want it too spicy.

** I tend to add a very small amount, but you may need more.

You’ll probably need at least some, so I recommend tasting and adjusting as necessary.
