Below is a list of ingredients for making homemade pumpkin pie spice. The written recipe, if you can call it that, is just below. You can also continue reading or scroll down for more info.
RECIPE
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg*
1/2 tsp five-spice powder**
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground clove
If you’re using freshly-grated nutmeg, grate it just before using with a rasp-style grater or other fine grater.
Combine the nutmeg, fresh or not, with the other ingredients in a small bowl. Store at room temp in an air-tight container.
NOTES
* I highly recommend grinding your nutmeg fresh just before using. Not only is it better, but opening the container and smelling the nutmeg is always a treat, since it smells incredible. If you only have pre-ground, it will still work.
** This is an odd choice, and maybe controversial. However, I think it works well with the other flavors. It also helps use up the container or five-spice you bought for that recipe one, two, maybe six years ago. Sound familiar?
